Costs & finance

What you can finance for your home energy upgrade

Upgrading your home energy setup is one of the most worthwhile improvements a Scottish homeowner can make — but the upfront cost can feel daunting. That's where spreading the cost helps. At Scottish Energy Efficiency we arrange no-obligation surveys and quotes for paid installations, and loans are available, subject to status, so you can move forward with confidence. A representative example is provided with any quote.

What can be financed

We arrange surveys and quotes for the following home energy upgrades. Each one is tailored to your property after a survey — there is no one-size-fits-all price, because every Scottish home is different. Below is what is typically included and what we assess on the day of your survey.

Solar panels (photovoltaic)

Rooftop solar PV systems generate electricity from daylight — and Scotland gets more daylight than many people think. We arrange surveys that assess your roof orientation, pitch, shading from trees or neighbouring buildings, and your typical electricity use, so the system is sized to your home. A survey also checks your inverter location, scaffolding access and any structural considerations.

Battery storage

A battery lets you store the electricity your solar panels generate during the day and use it in the evening, when you're most likely to be at home. We survey for the right capacity based on your generation and usage, and check that your existing inverter and consumer unit are compatible. Batteries can also be installed without solar, to store cheaper off-peak electricity.

Air source heat pumps

An air source heat pump is an efficient electric heating system that replaces or supplements a gas or oil boiler. Your survey covers your home's heat loss, insulation, radiator sizing and hot water needs, because a heat pump works best when your home is warm enough to hold the heat. We arrange the survey and quote — our MCS-certified partner installer carries out the work.

New heating systems

If a heat pump isn't right for your home yet, we also arrange surveys and quotes for modern heating upgrades — including high-efficiency boilers, upgraded controls, and smart heating systems that give you better control room by room. We assess what you have and quote for the most sensible upgrade for your property.

How the finance works

Spreading the cost

We quote for paid installations only. To help you spread the cost, loans are available, subject to status. We do not publish rates or loan amounts on this website, because the right arrangement depends on your circumstances and the scope of your installation. Instead, a representative example is provided with any quote, so you can see how the finance works before you decide.

You are never under any obligation to take up finance. A no-obligation survey and quote gives you the full picture — the work recommended, and a representative finance example alongside it. You decide whether and how to proceed.

What's in your quote

  • A tailored breakdown of the recommended installation
  • A representative finance example — loans available, subject to status
  • VAT at the rate that applies at the time of your quote
  • Installation by our MCS-certified partner
  • No obligation — you decide whether to proceed

0% VAT on solar panels and batteries

A reduced rate of 0% VAT applies to the installation of solar panels and battery storage in domestic properties until 31 March 2027. Your quote will reflect the VAT rate that applies at the time. This is one good reason to arrange a survey sooner rather than later.
